Letterphile

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 June 2026

Letterphile (“the app”, “we”) is a word game with single-player, daily-puzzle, and online multiplayer modes. We designed it to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. Letterphile has no user accounts and never asks for your name, email, or phone number. It contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, and no crash-reporting services. We do not collect, store, sell, or share any personal information.

Data that stays on your device

Your game progress, daily-puzzle streak, scores, and settings are stored locally on your device only. They are never transmitted to us, and they are removed when you uninstall the app.

Single-player & daily puzzle

The vs-AI and daily-puzzle modes run fully offline, with no network requests. The daily puzzle is chosen from a list bundled in the app based on the calendar date, so it needs no server. Display typefaces are bundled in the app, so there is no third-party font download or any data sent to a fonts provider.

Online multiplayer

If you choose to play online, the app connects to our game server only to relay your live game. Over that connection we handle:

As with any internet connection, the server sees your device’s IP address to route the connection; we don’t use it to identify, profile, or track you. Game rooms are temporary and held in memory, and are discarded shortly after the game ends and not stored. We do not keep a history of your online games.

Children’s privacy

Letterphile does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. The app contains no ads and no in-app purchases.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the new version will be published at the same URL before any new data practice takes effect.
